Description

An upright fine-textured perennial turfgrass that has a mid-green to grey green leaf blade. The turfgrass spreads predominantly by underground rhizomes (Aldous and Chivers, 2002). Browntop bentgrass can tolerate a range of cutting heights to suit a golf or bowling green e.g. 2 mm (low) or domestic lawn e.g. 30 mm (high). The species of turf is commonly used within seed mixes to improve turf density when grown in temperate regions. the variety provides a nice combination sward with Red fescue grass. Browntop bentgrass is also used in fairway oversowing and within golf surrounds.

Browntop bentgrass prefers poor acid type soils. New seed sowing rate: 3 to 12 g/m2; oversowing rate: 2 to 10 g/m2 and stolonising rate: 20 to 40 kg/100m2 (Aldous and Chivers, 2002).
