Festuca arundinacea
Tall Fescue
Tall Fescue has a variable texture - old varieties are quiet coarse, while new(er) varieties are medium- to fine-textured or even finer. The density of Tall Fescue is moderate to low, the grass possesses a deep coarse root system and grows as either a "bunch grass" or by undergound rhizomes (roots) (Aldous and Chivers, 2002). In a study conducted by Esmailpourmoghadam and Salehi (2021) they identified that Tall Fescue can handle a high level of shade stress (80% continuous shade).;
Tall fescue will withstand moderate to heavy wear once firmly established. The grass retains in colour and vogour under various stresses in comparison to other cool-season turf species (Aldous & Chivers, 2002).
