Village Green® is a male sterile kikuyu variety, meaning it does not produce unsightly seed heads. Village Green is a reliable performer in temperate and sub tropical environments. The variety is better equipped to cope in cooler months and is best mown low (<25 mm) regularly for optimum results. Village Green has short internodes, it produces a dense turfgrass and has an extensive root system to aid recovery. Village green prefers full sun, but can handle dappled shade.
Village Green launched into the Western Australian and Victorian market in 2009; then into New South Wales in 2010. As of December 2016 nearly 200 hectares of Village Green is under turf production at turf farms across Australia. Village Green is versatile and can be specified across a broad range of uses, including: sports fields, public open spaces, entry statements, golf tees and fairways and residential lawns. Village Green has a massive root system, it is measured to have 50% more roots per volume of soil than common Kikuyu (Source: Village Green).
