Stenotaphrum secundatum
Buffalograss
PAL42 (protected by Australian Plant Breeder's Rights); Prestige (registered trade mark of TurfBreed Pty Ltd), TR1-1N (Breeder's Code).
Prestige® Buffalo was bred in Australia for Australian conditions. It is one of the newest Buffalo's on the market (2013). Prestige® is reported as having 20% faster lateral growth compared to Palmetto buffalo. Prestige® Buffalo is maintained best at 20 mm to 50 mm in full sun and 50 mm to 70 mm in shade.
Prestige (PAL42) was bred by Ozbreed. Abell (2013) identifed that the mean leaf blade of Prestige (40 mm) is shorter than the buffalograss Palmetto ('SS100') (29 mm). Comments have been made that Prestige buffalo provides a darker green colour for most of the year. During testing within the Plant Breeder's Rights trial, leaf colour was the same as Palmetto (Abell, 2013)
